E-commerce Systems in 2024: Magento vs Prestashop vs Opencart

ecommerce

Which of these is the best e-commerce system?

You are most likely asking now what precisely is that? Well, e-commerce, at its core, is purchasing and offering products online. It’s a good option if you are planning to start your own business of lets say selling products through internet. The first type of e-commerce was introduced in the 1960.

Throughout the years the e-commerce developed with the expansion of Internet access and the appearance of well known online merchants in the 1990s and mid 2000s. Amazon started working as a book-shipping business in 1995. Also, Ebay started to introduce online selling and auctions in 1995 and expanded in 1997 like crazy !

I will also like to address that with the rising of web pages like Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and others,  social media sites became very important in dealing with e-commerce and its customers. E-commerce can be an extremely rewarding business, yet you can’t just profit overnight with it. It is essential to do a lot of researching , ask as many questions , and work harder, so you can adjust and make the best decisions for your business that will gain you profit.

Now that we know something about this lets compare the 3 most popular e-commerce selling systems.

The first one that I’d like to talk about is Magento system.

magento

Because its the most popular e-commerce in the world. Based on my research people are using 20 % of Magento in all e-commerce websites. But what I want to mention is that if you are not a Developer, Magento could be hard to use for beginners. Magento also stands out from other competition when it comes to the list of features, it is one of the biggest in e-commerce systems. This is the reason why most of the customers of Magento are large corporations. Lets go through the systems top features so you can understand better what I’m talking about.

Magento system never tried to pretend to be the company that they arent,  so I would urge all the intermediate developers to download and try a free demo and build a website.

With this being said, lets move on to the next selling system Prestashop system.

prestashop

This is also one of the most popular e-commerce solutions on the market. Prestashop has well over 700,000 registered users all over the world. The good thing about Prestashop is that its always free, that means you would not need to spend money to build an online webshop.  If you as an online merchant are interested in raw numbers and studying stats you will love everything that Prestashop can offer. What impressed me the most was ”Real Time Profit Margin”. This option enables you to track your takings in real time. While PrestaShop is not perfect I think the quality of system can be seen below:

The final system that Im gonna review is Opencart system.

opencart

While this system being my less favourite it’s still a good alternative to Prestashop. It works with any number of products. The site is very customizable with a big portion of plugins that you could use. It has about 4000 paid and  1600 free plugins.

One of the biggest advantages in Opencart is administration panel which is very easy and clear to manage, ( not so advanced like the ones in Prestashop or Magento ).

This is a much better choice for the beginners  who are just getting into the world of e-commerce and great start for your future bussines. Lets check out the systems top features so you can compare it with Magento and Prestashop :
