I would totally agree with Jon Henshaw and I would recommend you to read his great post about infographics SEO. If you are aiming to be on the first page of search engines – content is the key. Yes, I might sound boring and you ,probably, heard this many times before from many other SEO experts. Whether you like it or not, content is the only valuable thing for search engines. Did you ever noticed, that most websites has a blog? Why? Because it’s the key to reach search engines Everest top. There are tremendous amount of articles about SEO and why content is so important.But lets get back to infographics and how to use them to increase traffic to your blog or website.

By now we know that infographics are totally useless in terms of content. So how can we change this and squeeze some “SEO juice” from visual information? As you know , most search engines gives you an awesome feature to search by image.And that is the space where you should target.
When you choose “search by image” option on your search engine in browser window, (I assume you are using Bing, Google, Yahoo, Yandex or other main search engines) results will be displayed based on the url and anchor name.If search terms matches URL and Anchor text – your visual content (.jpg, .png and etc) most likely will be shown in search results. Of course main searc engines takes into account website authority and other important SEO factors, but regardless of that your chances are really high. Here is an example. If we type in Google “infographic”, results will be as below (note-since Google shows results based on personal searches your search outcome might be different, especially i clicked visual.ly):

If we will try to search image by term “infographic” – we will see totally different outcome:

As you see from the images, keyword density in URL and image anchor text keuword is high. So, what can we learn from this? Always give a valuable name for your picture. Example: seoinfographics.png, infographicofinfographics.jpg and so on. Pay attention to the “alt” element of your infographic name in the post, example: alt=”infographicseo” or alt=”infographic+yoursearchkeyword” and so on.

All above mentioned tips are “geeky” and requires basic html knowledge. But ,surely, there is more easy and more effective way to get more exposure and traffic to your blog or website using infographics. Infographics are valuable traffic source, because people simply love data visualization. Within couple of seconds, consumers are able to identify what the infographic is all about. As we discussed before, great ideas generates more exposure via social networks and web. And that is because of visual data simplicity. Image is worth of thousand words. I did an experiment by posting our Whatsapp Infographic on various sites. Experiment goal was to find out and share with you folks, which websites are the best to get more exposure. Regardless of the results, we have to say, that all comes down to your infographic uniqueness. Personally, I don’t think that Whatsapp Infographic was very unique idea, but we took different approach and compared most popular messaging applications worldwide. By far, best place to share your knowledge with mutual interests people. Quora also allows you to create a blog and share posts. Make one and share your knowledge. People do appreciate it and they will share your ideas, especially visual content.
Within 10 days we were able to get more than 5700 views. I would highly recommend you to explore Quora.com network and share your content.

Scoop.it

Another great place to generate a lot of traffic by posting your visual content. Create your own scoops and your content will be available to huge audience. Highly recommended. Scoop.it recommendations tab allows users to explore content based on their interests.

Storify.com

Storify.com allows you to share stories, that you find interesting. We don’t have exact number of traffic, but on daily basis, there was a significant increase of visitors to our blog via Storify.com

Visual.ly

Most popular infographics platform on the web. If you are infographic lover, this place is exactly for you. Trending data visualizations and great selection of infographics. In 10 days we have managed to collect “only” more than 200 views but percentage of clicks from Visual.ly platform is very high. Why? Because visual.ly users have high interest in infographics and they do their research deeply.
